Humari galiya hoke aana

January 22, 2012

Meaning and Context:

Humaari galiya hoke aana is one of those meaningless fun songs that may be sung by young girls for the groom before the wedding only to tease him and pull his leg. It would give them a chance to dance and sing and laugh and just have a good time.

Used in the movie Raincoat, the words of the song are very Bihari, and though the various ornaments talked about in the song may be worn all over India but their Bihari/UP words are used here.

The song simply says: Come to our street and when you come bring for us such and such ornaments, and don’t worry, the elders of the house don’t know about it.
